THE SHAPE OF IDENTITY

Design never starts from scratch. Each generation works with forms, ideas and conventions that already exist — and modifies them to suit their own idea of progress, identity and modernity.
From the beginnings of corporate design in the early 20th century, through the confidence and optimism of the 1950s, to today's global brands, this talk explores how typography has helped build identity in different historical moments.
The interesting part is not simply how styles change, but why they change. What made a certain shape look right for its time? What is carried forward, what is abandoned and what is reinterpreted?
The past is not something to be copied. It's something to work with.
The Shape of Identity explores how typography can tap into history without becoming nostalgic — and how familiar forms can be transformed into something specific, recognisable and relevant to the present.
This event will be held in English.
