Workshop by Studio FM Milan
An intensive one-day workshop dedicated to the radical observation of the city and the construction of a collective urban archive. Each group receives exactly 100 meters of a street in Milan. Nothingelse. The task is to explore and document them in an almost obsessive way, looking within a seemingly ordinary fragment for its own key to reading and visual storytelling. Every detail can become narrative matter: every screw, every writing, every number, every surface, every shadow, every sign, every crack, every trace, every imperfection. The goal is to build a visual alphabet of one street 100 meters at a time, recognizing, selecting and relating the elements encountered, transforming what normally goes unnoticed into a system of signs capable of telling the story of a place. The morning is dedicated to field research: observation, collection, photography, measurement, cataloguing and interpretation. In the afternoon, at Studio FM, the collected material is transformed through graphic experimentation into an editorial artifact. Each group will thus build its own page, sequence or micro-publication. Individually, each project tells 100 meters; together, all the artifacts make up a collective book A research and design exercise that starts from a minimum portion of space to arrive at a larger question: how can you tell a city through its details? The number of participants is limited. How to register for the workshop will be communicated soon. Cost: € 20
