Patrick Thomas (1965, Liverpool, UK) is a graphic artist, author and lecturer. He studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London, before moving to Barcelona in 1991, where he founded the multidisciplinary studio laVista. In 2005 he published Black & White, a collection of his work made for the international press. In 2011 Laurence King Publishing of London published his second book, Protest Stencil Toolkit, a revised edition of which came out in April 2019.   In 2007 he set up his first screen printing workshop in Barcelona and decided to focus on autonomous projects. Since then he has exhibited his limited editions on five continents, many of which are now kept in public and private collections. In 2016 he opened a second silkscreen lab in Berlin.   In April 2018 he was interviewed by BBC Radio 4, on the Front Row programme, on the occasion of his public installation Breaking News 1.0 in Liverpool. Since then the project has been presented throughout Europe. He has lectured on his practice and conducted workshops around the world, most notably in the UK, Spain and Germany. Since October 2013 he has been professor of visual communication at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart.   Since 2011 he has lived and worked in Berlin, splitting between the German capital, London, Barcelona and Stuttgart. He is a British member of the AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale). In the spring of 2019 he was invited to a residency at the Deutsche Akademie Rom Villa Massimo, the German Academy in Rome. In January 2020, his work for the Berliner Philharmoniker entered the shortlist of the Grammy Awards. In 2022, he was awarded an honorary degree from Birmingham City University.
