Ico Migliore, architect and three-time Compasso d 'Oro Award, is a professor at Politecnico di Milano, Chair Professor at Dongseo University (Busan) and member of the Scientific Committee of the Franco Albini Foundation. Co-founder of Migliore+Servetto, he works on the relationship between space and sign on different scales: from urban design for Turin 2006 - with Mara Servetto and Italo Lupi - to ongoing projects, including environmental graphics and wayfinding for Palazzo Reale in Milan and urban design for Pordenone Capital of Culture 2027.

Signs, senses and shared identity.
Urban archigraphy — the set of signs of function, identity and belonging — is a visual system to be inhabited. It points to destinations and tells the traveller what they will find along the way, and why. A cornerstone of urban identity, it defines an inclusive, dynamic language that can both guide and generate a sense of community.
The talk opens a reflection on environmental graphic design in shaping a neighbourhood’s identity — a kind of urban tattoo in the making. What is a neighbourhood? An invisible border, or a weave of stories? Where does it begin, where does it dissolve, and how far does it belong to us?
Like a human being, urban archigraphy brings together the Kantian crossing of intellect and reason — the first generating knowledge, the second meaning — joined by passion, the lever that nourishes belonging.

Migliore+Servetto opens the doors of its studio with an exhibition dedicated to urban archigraphy, through six projects that tell a research on the graphic sign as a spatial, environmental and relational matter.
Beyond wayfinding, visual language becomes an architecture of signs: it enters space, interprets its character and helps to build its identity. Archigraphy becomes a living device, able to accompany the experience of places and transform the perception of the city.
