Alfabeti Modernisti is a CAST project dedicated to rediscovering and digitising 25 Italian typefaces designed between 1920 and 1940, originally cut in wood and lead and collected by Luca Lattuga.
The revival was not a mere transfer of the originals: each typeface was interpreted and adapted to the digital medium, addressing imperfections and inconsistencies and expanding the glyph sets for contemporary use. The talk
retraces this process, from selecting and digitising the typefaces through to their communication and circulation.
